Non-uniform part milling

A significant challenge in manufacturing is the generation of small, high-accuracy features on an otherwise irregular (or less accurate) raw workpiece. It is often not practical for manufacturers to provide an accurate workpiece before creating the micro scale features on the part. Micro machining uniform features on non-uniform parts presents many challenges that have prevented fully automating the manufacturing process. Loading, positioning, and machining parts to specification are all specific challenges where no two raw work pieces are the same. In addition, it is important to understand the morphology of each part, its contours and material, and the impacts of the machining process on part integrity. Traditional CNC machining technologies are not equipped to handle this kind of challenge at production speeds.

Microlution has developed an automated micro milling solution for non-uniform workpieces. The solution integrates a high-accuracy laser measurement sensor to characterize the part and immediately load it and position it for accurate milling, and measuring the part after machining. This ensures the accuracy of the features and the integrity of the material.
